Bobbi passed away tonight, in the gentle and loving care of our local veterinarian. She was our eight year old Japanese bobtail, white with orange markings, a small cat. She had "found" me, when I was cleaning an apartment, in what they call an apartment complex. I went to the office to see if they knew whose cat it was. The woman said that someone had moved and just left her to her own devices, and she had been living off the generosity of anyone who would feed her. Well I asked if I could take her home, of course the answer was yes. Well we already had three cats, so what's one more! We also had two dogs which she basically ignored and after awhile, all four cats got along quite nicely.
One evening a friend of ours came to visit and she brought her dog Jeremy, a greyhound. Jeremy wasn't anymore than ten feet inside our house, when there was this white and orange flash, and there was Bobbi, hanging from Jeremys nose and lips, her claws embedded in the poor dog. It wasn't anything Jeremy had done, and the two of them had met before, so we had no idea what was going on . Well as it turns out, Bobbi was pregnant and she just viewed Jeremy as a threat. (Oh yes, Jeremy was fine, he was just frightened).
Bobbi had two very tiny kittens in our closet. One with a tail and one without. We still have those two, now grown up. The one with a tail, is Fred. He is mostly white with some orange markings. His length from nose to tail tip, about 2and1/2 to 3 ft long. He's a "big boy"! His sister, Wilma, is a calico with no tail and she is tiny like her mother.
Up until a few days ago, Bobbi had been fine. Then one evening she didn't eat. All our cats receive some canned cat food in the morning and evening. And she had the wobblies, she couldn't walk straight. The next morning she didn't eat either, and was still walking funny and acting strange. So I took her in to see Dr. Wood. This was on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004. Dr. Wood, exrayed her, did blood work, checked for feline leuk, etc. and came up with nothing out of the ordinary. But her body temp was low, and so they kept her on a heating pad. They gave her fluids and lots of love. I was going to pick her up tomorrow and bring her home, but Dr. Wood called a while ago, and said that Bobbi had passed away. I will still pick Bobbi up,bring her home and bury her in the garden. Thanks for the memories, Bobbi!
