For those wanting serious critiques only!!

Thought I would start this thread in the hopes that there will be good and serious critiques.   I can be your first *victim* IR  or whomever wishes to give me direction!!!    This is in progress....it is a photo I took and then added the little ghosties...which may or may not work.

The dirt path leaves to the imagination an old boat launch from my childhood, it.

Now you know why I ask jafo to critique stuff, hes got a wicked eye for detail, and has no problems being real about it.

I like your new avatar! We used to camp on a lake that had an old dirt boat ramp when I was a kid.

Please say its good! We had our first snow on the plains here today and lost power twice which meant I lost all my revisions and had to start anew. One day I will learn to hit that save button more often.

still a bit of hard line dead center but looks good ..

It's beautiful Frankie!      This wall will be decorating my screen at work. When you're cooped up in an office with no windows, something like this can be quite refreshing to look at!

Yes, I think that's good enough...

The 'right' mix of elements with no glaring issues of short-cut-taking.

Whenever a graphic [or anything] goes through a sequence of revisions/changes it's crucial to keep copies along the 'way'.

That aircraft cockpit I posted in the screenshots thread has been backed up regularly as there's a heck of a lot of work in it to 'lose'.  The coding co-ordinates alone for each 'gauge' element would take probably a week to replicate from scratch... and that doesn't take into account the graphics...or the individual gauge coding.  To do it all again would likely be the whole month it took to do it the first time.

Instead, I've started on a second plane... and learning from the first it'll probably be done in half the time...

Oh, trust me, I have more versions of this psd on my computer than any I have ever done before, but when the power went off, I lost all revisions I had done today because I had not saved yet!

Been an interesting experience and hope to do it again sometime when I don't have quite so much work to do. I'll try not to start out with such a poor image next go round! I did learn some important things and did keep notes.

Thanks for liking the "finished"  product (I know, nothing is ever finished). It was a lot of hard work but worth it for the knowledge I hope I gained.

Fishing looks real good there Frankief. Think I'll head on down there and set up house for a day or two. Hard work deserves something special.

Excellent work Frankie. I saved every version and to see the progression is phenomenal. You have certainly put in a lot of time and effort and even though the going was a bit rough at times you should give yourself a pat on the back for persevering and following it through till the end. Congratulations.

I'll add mine to that too. Congratulations Frankief. I may not have saved them but I did follow your progress. Excellent work!

Hello Everyone and also hello to my GUI Heros,

normally i dont write much but since i became so angry these days i had to look for a solution, so i came here.

I tryd to find help via the impulse chat lobby in WC but the answer just pointed me at the guidelines...
My main problem is that i submitted work not just a wall with a lame gradient background and some stuff i found under google pictures combined with some filters no i actually made some stuff out of the box... and almost all got rejeted from the competent jury of WC..
Im not a subscriber, but i thought sharing art is written in big capitals here.. but it seems to me that its not...
If i work on a picture or a wall for like 3 days until i complete it ,the outcome can be lame but others may find it quite ok...

The reason that im angry is that i have seen ratings about stuff thats generally in scrap on DA with a like 4 Star rating up to 5 on WC and you can go and search for that work here on WC under the search field and it will pop up.. other stuff that is equal in creativity and detail ( in my eyes ) get a lame 1 star rating and im not talking about my work i mean in general... thats kinda sad, people will stop submitting work to WC if this is going to continue...
I also submitted some stuff like i mentioned before but common the guidlines say its gotta be usefull it cant contain stuff from other artist (without any sort of permission or prove that your allowed to use the content) and so on im used to that - since im not only submitting to WC..
I had some stuff up but i never EVER made it to the gallery
I could search for it like a maniac but it never showed up ... so i wondered is this only happening to me( because im not subscribing...)
Did i forgett to uncheck the field ( show on my personal page only ) double checked... tripple checked... but no it didnt showed up...
But honestly, i may be an Ass in some post i write critic about stuff but only because my standarts are very high if something is worth posting i post  unless it isnt i dont...its simple i dont judge over work thats basically beginners stuff...I might even come up and say good work keep it up... I dont want to say im flawless in my work i also have bugs and holes in my stuff but im  fixing it right away when i see them but for that reason that nothing ever will make it to the gallery why the heck iam submitting my work...whats the point about submitting stuff if nobody can see it.
I was totally in rage after i submitted a wall some months ago that was honestly more than worth uploading
But i got a nice email that contained an !!!! Automated message !!!!

Dear organicANDstyle,

Thank you for your recent upload of your ******* for Wallpapers
Unfortunately your upload has not met our guidelines and has been rejected.
However we do look forward to your future submissions.

Sincerely,
The WinCustomize Staff
Honestly ??? i worked so hard on it and it meet every single guideline... YOU GOTTA BE F*!? BEEP ME !
but shortly after that i viewed the wallpaper gallery and i found a wall not mentioning any name of the Artist with a google teddy bear on it that appeared on the first page of google pictures with a shamefull not even gradiant background and some thrown in text... with a mindblowing 4 star rating.
So maybee someone can tell me what am Im doing wrong ?
Do i have to submit stuff that is containing a balck background and a single line ( maybee from right to left or from the bottom to the top ?
I realy look forward to some help or advice here thanks in advance from now on only Master pieces like this

organicANDstyle-

  • The image you used needs to be acknowledged in keeping with 'Fair Use' or rules layed out by the author. You may have 'found' it through Google, but it is not a 'Google Image' or their property, so to speak. Nor is it yours to do what you want with just because you downloaded it, Generally, folks use what is known as 'stock' images and obtain permission from the original author to use it. That permission is then enclosed in the zip with your finished work or permission/acknowledgment is shown in the description. (DeviantARt has some great stock artists. Just be sure to check the individuals rules for use.)
  • I don't know for sure, but IMHO, the pink hearts and 'comb' image are blinding. This can be a distraction and the wall could be considered something that isn't 'usable' or 'functional'.
  • Finally, (from me, anyway), the words 'cheap', 'lame', etc..I don't know your intent, but it makes you sound like you didn't take what you were doing very seriously and just slapped it together. And to be blunt, since that what this thread is about (and this is not a personal attack against you) it looks slapped together.

If you're serious about making good, functional, stylish, attractive, wallpapers...I would utilize this thread for advice. Post your drafts and be prepared some honest critiques....but keep in mind they will be coming from some of the best artists on this or any other site. I think you can achieve what you want based on this piece of work (no matter how much I may have dissed it). All you need is thick skin, and open mind, and the sincere desire to do .
